Technical Writer
Location: Herndon

Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, very detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has experience working with large scale, enterprise class networks and systems. We are seeking a Technical Writer responsible for researching, writing, and editing materials for related IT processes, plans, procedures, instructional material, and/or software documentation. We value a team member who can convert complex documentation into easy language for multiple audiences (technical or non-technical). This candidate will bring both a focus on operational best practice and proactive innovation to the role. The role will include heavy interaction with end users to understand their user experience and respond to user questions.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Obtaining technical data from independent observation, review with technical staff members, and/or studies of published materials and existing documentation.
  • Working with specialists, analysts, programmers, etc., to obtain background information of technologies, methods, and standards.
  • Interfacing with users to help resolve questions and issues with the system.
  • Tracking user issue resolution and leveraging responses to develop FAQs and knowledge management materials.
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers.
  • Performs quality assurance on all materials.

Basic Quals:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in writing user documentation or software support
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and explain complex technical concepts.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to undertake multiple projects and deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Good troubleshooting ability

Preferred Quals

  • Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with the Assessment & Authorization Process
