JOB DESCRIPTION: 
This is an exciting opportunity to support an important effort that requires a self-motivated, creative developmental-level individual to serve as a Communications Officer to support a Customer department that focuses on external engagement, research, and innovation.  The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting, editing, and maintaining communications for the department and content updates to the Customer web site and associated platforms, and pushing communications to achieve the Customer’s communication goals.  S/he is a team player who takes initiative and closely collaborates with Communications Team members and with the department workforce and subject matter experts. 
The Communications Officer will work with the customer to develop communications products in multiple formats, including web content, to ensure regular and transparent communications for department personnel.  An important function for the candidate will be identifying, publishing, and refreshing content for the group’s web presence on the customer system.
 Key Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to, the following:
Helping to develop and distribute employee communications content that supports the Customer’s communications strategy and reflects key messaging.

  • Managing the Customer’s web presence to ensure relevant, interactive, and current information is available to the workforce.
  • Proactively engaging with department personnel to understand communications requirements and content updates for their web presence.
  • Drafting and publishing content across the range of internal communication channels, including the Customer’s website.
  • Drafting and/or proofreading communications distributed to team members.

 
Required Qualifications:
 Active TS/SCI clearance with full-scope polygraph.

  • Bachelor's degree and (14) years or more of related experience. Masters and (12) years or more experience; PhD or JD and (9) years or more experience.
  • Ten years of communications experience, including some web design and writing/producing communications content.
  • Familiar with emerging technologies and/or has a basic understanding of topics in the STEM field.
  • Experience managing web content; knowledge of web design tools.
  • Experience or working knowledge of computer-based graphic design.
  • Must have an adaptable work style and be comfortable interacting with all levels of officers and all communication styles.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to help develop and generate content for meetings, briefings, documents, blogs, and websites.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office, WordPress, Joomla, and willingness to learn additional software/platforms.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to conceive fresh ideas for new content that establishes or supports Customer’s brand identity.
  • Strong skills in editing content that targets specific audiences and meets Customer objectives.
