Roles and responsibilities potentially include:
 
The System Administrator manages, architects, and maintains the complex series of computer and network equipment supporting a multi-agency data warehouse program and will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of over 150 clustered CentOS Linux servers on both classified and unclassified networks. The system administration team has full responsibility for these systems, including provisioning, configuring, maintaining (including patching and security scanning), and decommissioning server and workstation hardware used by both the IT staff and end-users at the customer site.
 
The System Administrator must have experience working with networked storage technologies (e.g. SANs such as HP 3PAR and Nimble disk arrays) and backup tape libraries and must be able to configure and manage high-availability clustering in a CentOS Linux environment. The Systems Administrator must be able to deploy and provision new server hardware as well as
plan and execute upgrades to operating systems on deployed servers (e.g. CentOS 6 to CentOS 7). Due to the nature of work and the classified systems involved, remote/telework opportunities may be limited at times to meet operational system needs.
 
He or she will work closely with other members of our system administration team, our development teams, our database administrators, our information security engineer, network engineers, and with senior Government stakeholders on a daily basis. Additionally, our lead system administrator plays a critical role in transitioning existing systems to cloud environment, so experience with cloud technologies (AWS or Azure), containerization, and virtualization is a plus.
 
 
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Linux and Windows servers operating together in complex application architectures, including utilizing LDAP and Active Directory to manage accounts and permissions for Linux resources.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle database storage and the ability to work closely with database administrators to manage disk and other resources used by multi-terabyte Oracle databases.
  • Ensures systems are in compliance with applicable information security requirements (e.g. DISA STIGs, CVEs, etc.) through close work with the ISSO and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and execute regular scheduled patching and maintenance of production servers as well as to incorporate out-of-cycle updates in response to emergent cybersecurity risks.
  • Tracks hardware lifecycles, plans for replacements and maintenance, and works with vendors to prepare and review BOMs.
  • Evaluates compatibility of information system development efforts with agency architectures and recommends adjustments as appropriate
  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and works closely as a liaison between program management, customer stakeholders, and the project technical team
  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, team leads, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work without close supervision. Must be driven and motivated to succeed in an environment of constant change—experience in an Agile development environment is a definite plus.
Required Qualifications:
  • BS in computer science, information technology, or a related specialized area, field or the equivalent and or more 10 years of related experience.
