As always, I hope this message finds the team doing well and preparing for the start of the holiday season. This volume of the Around The Corner is going to discuss innovation and how it effects our lives both personally and professionally. We are in a remarkable time in history when it comes to innovation. AI is the next global-altering technology, and like some of its technological predecessors, it most certainly will change the way we do things medically, personally, professionally, and, hopefully, philanthropically.
Unfortunately, I am old enough to have lived through, some of the most dramatic technology breakthroughs in history, the biggest of which was arguably the invention of the internet. I was fresh into technology consulting when internet technology hit the scene. It was transformational on so many levels. Every industry was positively affected when it comes to efficiencies, ease of communication, and the overall ability to enhance people’s abilities to acquire, what is now the most valuable thing on the planet — data. Whether it was early weather warnings, health records, the stock market, or movie times and locations, the world was suddenly connected. On a global level, things such as cash, credit, maps, and games were accessible. From the creation of the internet, we have things such as virtualization, data centers, data analytics, and all the transformational technologies that have guided our industry for the last three decades.
While all those innovations were mostly positive, they had some negative consequences as well, such as online scamming, cyber-attacks, fraud, and the dark web to name a few. The internet was automation. When people think of automation, they often think of efficiencies of process, safety, collaboration, and unfortunately job loss. As we move into the AI era, automation will be put into overdrive. The effect AI could have on early detection of disease and medical treatment is limitless. Self-driving cars could prevent more that 60% of auto fatalities. It will also be a huge factor in job elimination. But like all the other innovations, there will be job formation as well. To keep up with global innovation, we need be constantly transforming ourselves so that we can understand where the market and trends are going. At Cornerstone, we are on the frontline of keeping up with global threats to our country and our allies.
Transformation of our skillsets as a company, as an industry, and as an individual contributor, is more critical than ever to protect our country, critical infrastructure, and way of life. AI is the next step in a world that is forever changing, and we are monitoring the market and looking for opportunities for Cornerstone to be more involved. If you’re interested in hearing more about our AI strategy, or have input of your own on new and innovative ways to incorporate AI into our industry, please reach out – we’d love to collaborate and learn together.
