Job Description:
The Londinium program is seeking a Network Engineer to support the Sustainment and Maintenance of a dynamic network environment hosting a number of data feeds at varying levels of classification. The Network Technician will work both independently and as a member of an integrated product team supporting a wide variety of basic and complex network configurations related to desktop, server and storage area network (SAN) hardware.
The Network Engineer will assist with maintaining network designs and documentation, planning and applying upgrades and security patches to network devices in order to keep them current and compliant with information security requirements, and perform a wide variety of sustainment and maintenance activities, including troubleshooting and problem resolution.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Assisting the System Administrators with IP address assignments and switch port configurations on existing and new workstation/server installations
Assisting the Lead Network Engineer in developing and implementing Information Technology (IT)/Network plans
Diagnosing and troubleshooting network problems with network protocol capture/decode analyzers
Planning and building networks from open systems interconnect (OSI) Layer 1 through Layer 3
Managing TCP/IP internetworking connectivity to include addressing and sub-netting
Monitoring network traffic to ensure key devices are active and free of errors
Installing, configuring, updating and documenting the physical cable plant
Installing, configuring, updating and documenting network hardware (switches, routers, adaptive security appliances (ASAs), transceivers, media converters, etc.)
Installing, configuring, managing network security (firewalls, IP blocking)
Configuring and managing virtual private networks (VPNs)
Serving as the primary point of contact for network engineers from the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and other IT organizations external to the Sponsor’s Laboratory
Required Skills:
3-5 year of HANDS-ON network installation experience in an IC environment-racking/stacking, cabling, etc.
Six (6) years' experience with Cisco Catalyst Switches and other network hardware
Seven (7) years’ experience in the intelligence community as a network engineer or network administrator
Ability to lift up to 35lbs
Strong understanding of cabling types/standards
Familiarity with Cisco Catalyst switches and network firewall concept
Basic knowledge of network fundamental concepts like firewalls, servers
Willingness to perform Layer 1 tasks on a regular basis (pulling cable, racking/stacking, equipment removal, etc.)
Good troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with MS Visio to produce network diagrams
Willingness to become more involved with Network Administration tasks as experience is gained
